Welcome To Sankar Answers Section In KSRTC Blog.

Do you wanna ask a question about KSRTC Bus? Are you looking for answers? We offers you a space to ask anything you want to Sankar. However, He will be giving answers to your questions as the comment just below your question.

Sankar is well known in between KSRTC Employees In Thiruvananthapuram. He is having a database of almost all the buses of Kerala RTC In his brain. If you tell a number of any bus (Eg: RT 34, RAC 312, RRM 110 etc) Sankar will tell which bus it is and which route does this bus run and all the details of that bus.

The new mnemonic for depots were started in the early 1990’s.

So in the info page do you mean the old mnemonic for depots or the mnemonic KSRTC have written in way bills and journey bills?

Here I have some suggestions and corrections:

CDLM and CTNR depots came in late 1990’s or 2000. From that time onwards it is CDLM and CTNR respectively.
I think CHRY was CHRY and CGNR was CGNR itself. Kollam was QLN (Quilon).
Kannoor was CNR.
KKD was CLT (Calicut).
North Paravooor is now PRR and not NPR.
Palakkad was PGT (Palghat).
Thrissur was TCR(Trichur).
Puthukkad is PKD.
There was another depot near Pudukkad named Amballor which was closed when RB was the minister. It was written as ABLR.

there are only 4 superfast service from MDY; 2 towards KTM, TVM via ALP and EKM. TVM via KTM is an Express

Sankar said...: @ Rajesh, some super express are having side window as shutter itself since they were one of the first generation expresses built in kerala after workshop. They started it as sample expresses. RRK552 558,RRK981,983,948,949. But as compared to the present glassed windows, these shutters i feel are more better for the passengers as they have more air circulation than glasses. The parallel to our Express in Karnataka is Semi Deluxe. But they have 2X2 seating whereas we have 2X3. I think we should also have 2X2 wider seats in Express. Otherwise not much of a difference btw express and Super Fast; November 4, 2009 10:15 PM

Now our busses are running in everyday(Bangalore buses).The buses are empty except friday,Saturday and Sunday.So please stop running of some services in Monday to thursday which are not profitable.

Sankar said...: @anoopwilson , not only The pala bangalore buses, but most of the bangalore buses are via KKD and NBR than CMBTRE route. But comparably Coimbatore route is moe profitable but there are many issues regrding intrstate permit issues for ksrtc. If we need to run our buses via coimbatore(TN) the kilometere in running in tamilnad by the kerala buses will be more, and they should be equalized with more services to be allowed in kerala for tamilnad buses. Also permit rate is also a reason according to ksrtc.

I think you may look at this perspective. KSRTC has chosen KKD-MYS route for two reasons - First, more kilometres will be covered within Kerala and interstate permit involves only two states - Kerala & Karnataka. Secondly, KSRTC expects more short distance travellers on this route.

If you compare the number of people going from Bangalore to kerala, Kozhikode region stands at top. In Pala AC bus you find 20 people, which is not bad on weekdays (Considering the departure of Pala bus from BLR is too awkward). Many people use this bus in these routes - BLR-MYS, MYS-KKD, KKD-TSR and KKD-PALA.. On the other hand if you see BLR-KTM AC bus which takes Salem, Coimbatore it has hardly 5-8 people on mid week days. I have personally travelled on both of these buses many times.

Spoke to a senior conductor on Pala-BLR bus the other day and he says, Pala bus is making more revenue on a weekly or monthly basis compared to KTM-BLR bus. One more reason for less people on PALA-BLR bus on weekdays is, many commuters are from middle class family who travel frequently on this route and they cannot afford AC bus all the time.

For Pala-BLR as suggested by many conductors, this is what we should do - revisit the timing. Replace the current buses with new ones as they get a/c failures so frequently.

One thing we can do is to implement Online booking.Then we can see a huge increment in the revenue.Becoz people are using the Karnataka transport only becoz of online booking.

Sankar said...: @Eyes,Yea, The first set of 1000 buses are already on service from Number RRK55 to RAC54. The next set , starting from RAE55, the latest bus that I have seen is RAC864 a FP. Some more are also on service and now most of them are in Pampa special service. So I think yet another 900 buses have also been into service by today. Sankar said...: Yes. I travelled in the JNNURM on the first trip itself. Its written as registration number as JNT series instead of RA series. I think it indicates Jawaharlal Nehru Transport

I am following your blogs and posts regularly. It is really great that you people have taken such a nice initiative towards the well being of ksrtc.
Can we meet either the KSRTC minister or MD to to give our members good thoughts about (new routs, rearranging the schedules.. etc). If we can establish this group in such a way it would be great.
If at all, we get a chance for such an appointment we all can discuss and draft a good document contains our suggestions and comments.

Im ranjith from vallikunnam.[southernmost panchayat in ALP dist and in MVKA taluk.12km SE of KYLM and 6km east of oachira]..I am a regular reader of this blog.. and a great KSRTC FAN...earlier I had posted some info in the 1st edition.reg, FP services from MVKA.but cudnt c it posted here ..I want to tell abt the volvo low floor..i was living in chennai from 2007-09..these volvos[initially 10 of them.. the B7R LE, now 8400] were also started in chennai during 2008..they also have the same min fare 10Rs..now u can see more than 50-60..these buses are a boon for the passengers and most of them r crowded...now U can see long distance routes from kanchipuram/chengelpet to chennai city's depots like adyar/thyagaraya nagar/broadway...people will surely like thses new gen buses. these days people can afford it.ppl r looking for the value/class/quality in the product. So i hope that volvo city buses will b a hit in our tvm city also...congrats KSRTC for ur decision...pls include more routes frm ATL/KPM/VJMD/NTA/KTDA and also make use of the VIKING SLF, 1612, Starbus Low floor and 12M PANTHER Buses also...; November 21, 2009 8:06 PM

New buses RAC867 and RAC868 at PLR depot for the Pampa services in the routes PLR-PAMPA and TENKASI-PLR-PAMPA.

The recent double deckers that came to the TVM city in 1991 were TR555 and TR666.

About 20 years back in trivandrum city i used to see buses which were called as double deckers, road train and one more type was there.

The older double deckers were given the serial number starting in DD.

My problem is I cant recollect the name of the other two types of buses ( I think I amd sure that one was called as road train) which could also carry 150 passengers. Can you give me the exact name for those buses? How was the serial number given for it?

Manoramakkar athine "Paampan" busses ennanu vilikunnathu. Its actually called "vestibule bus". Few days back newspapers have reported that, KSRTC is planning to introduce 2 vestibule and 2 double decker buuses in their next set of 1000 busses. This news was reported by both manorama nd deshabhimani.

RRC976 belongs to kasargod bangalore service of KGD depot

RRC979 belonged to TVM at first time, now gone to TVLA bangalore service of TVLA

RRC966 is of TVLA bangalore sister bus

The current state of the Changanserry depot is highlighted by most of the newspapers.
If you see the statistics for the past 5 years, very few services are started from Changanserry depot. It has been said that, here the “understanding” between the politicians and the private bus owners are so strong, that they an even dictate on any new service initiatives from Changanserry depot. During Mathew.T.Tomas time he initiated to start Changanserry - Changanserry (Ponkunnam,Karukachal..) chain, but no body knows how they wind up that route proposal. The polititians including the Transport minister will not let KSRTC run efficiently. They could write off KSRTC debts any time, and take money from the Private operators not to run KSRTC bus in profitable routes. I think Kerala will be better off with just private bus operators. KSRTC is only for the minister and other polititians to increase their bargaining power, and to make money from other operations (AL and Volvo bus purchase, parts, tyres, Canteen contract the list goes on). Now with Jose Thettayil, he has only few years left in his term, and he is aware of the fact that he will never get a chance to become the Transport minister again in his life. PTPM - SBY LSFP still exists. Now it is via PTA, TVLA, CHRY, KTM.
In its initial stage in 2001 it was through Mallapally. Th initial time from PTPM was 4.00 PM. When Vazhikadavu LSFP thorugh ADR started from PTPM at 4.10 PM, timing of SBY was changed to 7.00 AM.
Within a few days the SBY LSFP bus was changed to Super Fast they changed the route also. But again within a few months they changed the SF back to LSFP. But then they didn't change the route.

That is the old Pala - Panathoor service, which was started some 25 yrs back and then it was given to Ponkunnam depot some 15 yrs back. This bus service was stopped in between many times and due to public requests it was restarted.

KSRTC increased the reservation charge on behalf of online reservation.Now we have to pay extra 30RS (reservation fee 10 + serivce charge 20)per seat in the online reservation system. If they are charging serivce charge 20 per transation it is affordable.But per seat means it is too costly.The cancellation system also changed.If u are cancelling any ticket you will lose min 25%.Before this was 15%.

KSRTC is planning to introduce 20 new Super Express buses on 12M chassis. I saw two tender notices in www.keralartc.com website. Interesting part is they will 42 seats of 2x2 combination. Seats resemble the ones in Super Deluxe with no push back.

Mysore- Thrissur...etc. I dont think this will happen also as ksrtc for name sake had made this site and dont think they have any interest in developing it like karnataka Ksrtc. we are still in crawling stage and i think before it start walking govt will forget to give polio vaccine and will make it loose the strength to walk. Why KSRTC is not preferring TATA 1616,which are using Globus? Its a marvelous engine,I am a regular traveller of Trichur-Bangalore Globus.It will take maximum 9 hours to reach Bangalore from Trichur.Actually the 1510 and 1512 is mainly ordinary city service.That you can find in Kochi Private buses.Almost 90% of Kochi private city buses are Tata 1512 or 1510.But You can see that all the operators except KERALA rtc using 1616 and above.; January 25, 2010 10:51 AM

Pala - Kudiyanmala service was started in November. But I dont think it goes via Kannur. It diverts after Thalassery. Now the bus leaves Pala at 6:00 PM and reaches Kudiyanmala at 4:00 AM. Return is also at the same timings.; January 27, 2010 6:49 AM

Kudiyanmala - Pala service used to be operated by Kannur depot since 2005 till August 2009. Once the bus got older and it could not do this long service they stopped that.
