The state-wide dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by the LDF and BJP in the state, to protest against the steep petrol price hike was total.

Isolated incidents of stones being pelted at vehicles, causing minor injuries to a few people, were reported from various parts of the state.

The functioning of government offices, including the Secretariat and commercial establishments were affected by the strike.

Most of the public service carriers and private vehicles also kept off the roads. By evening, life came back to normal.

Hartal supports here, pelted stones at KSRTC buses at various places. A KSRTC bus was stopped by a group of people at Kattakada, in the early hours.

The windscreen of the bus was smashed by the agitators. No one was hurt in the incident. Similar attacks on buses were also reported from Amaravila and Vattiyoorkavu.

In Kollam district, hartal supporters who tried to block vehicles and abuse passengers at Sakthikulangara, were arrested by the police.

In Kasargod, Yuvamorcha activists blocked the Mangalaor-Coimbatore passenger train for about 15 minutes.

The LDF and the BJP took out protest marches in all districts. LDF convener Vaikom Viswan who inaugurated a protect march by LDF works to the Secretariat, demanded that the government immediately revoke the petrol price hike.
