Cochin: Kerala State Road Transport Corporation to start buses from Thevara to Aluva via the new four lane Vallarpadam road from 31st of this month.
The District Collector Mr P.A Shaikh announced that the new services would coincide with the revival of second Bus Day which falls on May 31st.
As a beginning, four buses two air-conditioned Volvo buses and two Thiru Kochi buses will conduct service on the route. While operating buses through the new route, it would have to cover an extra two kilometers compared to the existing Palarivattom, Edappaly route, this would be compensated by the nearly 20 minutes saved in terms of traffic congestion.
KSRTC will increase the operation of buses keeping with the demand for the service. The buses would be available in each 30 minutes. As of now, services through the Vallarpadam road have been restricted between Thevara and Aluva. However, plans are afoot to launch services on more routes such as Mattancherry-Aluva and Fort Kochi-Aluva gradually.
The inaugural service will be launch at function to be attended by the new Transport Minister V.S Shivakumar, MLAs, and the Mayor.
The new bus services would help ease traffic congestion experienced at various points in the city such as North Junction, Palarivattom, and Edappally Junction considerably. The services will be beneficial to employees of the High Court, and students of Maharaja’s College and St. Teresa’s College.
