THRISSUR: Kerala State Transport Corporation’s (KSRTC) plan to launch 18 buses connecting Thrissur and Ottapalam towns has been hanging on fire for the last two years.
The chain bus service of KSRTC (Kerala State Transport Corporation) was announced in 2010 in order to increase the revenue and to have a presence of KSRTC in this 34 km route which is monopolised by private buses.
Easter Yashika, Thrissur zonal manager of KSRTC said, “The shortage of buses restricting KSRTC to introduce the chain service to Ottapalam. Following the opening of Chamravattom Bridge, we were asked to introduce service to Malappuram through this bridge. As we have introduced 40 buses in this route, it is difficult to launch chain service to Ottapalam via Shoranur. We could have more buses to introduce chain service to Ottapalam if we were not started bus service through Chamaravattom Bridge. We have been trying our best to get more buses”.
With the introduction of chain service, KSRTC is expecting they can collect Rs 8000 per day from this route in the initial stage. Currently, thousands of passengers in this route have been depending on more than 50 private buses. Because of the poor condition of road in Kuthiran, many passengers avoid Thrissur – Palakkad route via Vadakkenchery and travel along Thrissur – Shoranur – Ottapalam – Palakkad. This has increased the number of passengers in this route and calls for more bus service.

രണ്ടു വര്ഷമായി ഇത് കേള്ക്കുന്നു. പ്രൈവറ്റ് ബസ് ലോബി കാരണം ചെയ്ന് സര്വീസ് നീണ്ടു പോകുന്നു. രാത്രി 8.30 കഴിഞ്ഞാല് തൃശ്ശൂരില് നിന്നും ഒറ്റപ്പാലത്തേക്ക് ബസ്സില്ല. അധികാരികള് കണ്ണു തുറക്കണം .
Not oly to Ottapalam, KSRTC, should start TT or Ordinary services from Thrissur to Palakkad via shoranur,ottapalalam., as this state highway is far far bettr than moving through NH 47.
yeah, even that is a better route.
bt oly problm is ottapalam town,as it is bit congested, other than that it is one of the finest SH in Kerala.
With inauguration of Wadakkanchery Rly over bridge the journey via Shoranur is better, only pblm is Ottapalam town.

lot of Rajadhani series busses (interior and seating as like SF buses are running empty on variours depots in trivandrum.ksrtc can use this buses for new profitable routes

It is not true that this route will not be profitable for KSRTC.
Look at the similar rt – TSR – KDLR. There also, it was the same situation. KSRTC is doing good in that route. Travel in that route and see how KSRCT make revenue by avoiding overspeeding, but reaching the destination in flat 1:15 Hrs… TSR – OTPLM will also be prfitable. Only challenge in operations is, unlike TSR – KDLR route where buses from TSR, IJK and KDLR depots operate, in TSR – OTPLM route most of the buses would have to be operated from TSR currently.
Ksrtc can operate Ottappalam services from Paravoor, Kodungallur, Mala, Irinjalakuda, Pudukkad and Trissur depots. 3 buses from each depots.
