The revenue of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has come down by Rs 30.46 crore in February, when compared to the actual revenue recorded in January.

While the corporation’s revenue stood at Rs 154.19 crore in January, it could collect only Rs 123.73 crore in February.

Even the JNNURM AC Volvo buses, KSRTC’s much esteemed services in cities, could not bring in additional revenue in February as its collection went down Rs 1.44 crore from January’s collection of Rs 7.50 crore.

The non-operative revenue has also come down from Rs 1.85 crore to Rs 1.21 crore. “Differences in the number of days could have brought the non-operative revenue down. It has to be checked in detail,” said a top official.

The average revenue of the corporation in January was Rs 5.13 crore. In February it stood at Rs 4.41 crore.

The balance sheet procured from the corporation shows that KSRTC preferred cutting down the expense on purchase of diesel to balance the revenue and expense. After the price of diesel went up by a huge margin in February, KSRTC cut down its diesel expense in February by Rs 3.36 crore to Rs 65.14. The diesel price hike had forced KSRTC to cut down schedules in large numbers last month,” admitted the officer.

In January, KSRTC spent Rs 35.44 crore on salaries while in February the figure rose to Rs 37.54 crore, a difference of Rs 2.1 crore.
