നോക്കിനില്ക്കാന് നേരമില്ലായിരുന്നു. പ്രസവവേദനയില് പുളയുന്ന യുവതിയെ ഡ്രൈവര് മനോജ്കുമാര് ഇരുകൈകളിലും കോരിയെടുത്തു. കണ്ടക്ടര് ഷംസുദ്ദീന് കാഷ്വല്റ്റിയിലേക്ക് ഓടി. അവിടെ ചെന്നപ്പോള് ആരുമില്ല. നേരംകളയാതെ പുറത്തിറങ്ങി ഒാട്ടോ തേടിപ്പിടിച്ച് മറ്റൊരു ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക്.
അവിടെയെത്തി ലേബര് റൂമിലേക്കു കയറ്റി സെക്കന്റുകള്ക്കകം യുവതി ആണ്കുഞ്ഞിനു ജന്മം നല്കി. മലപ്പുറത്തുനിന്ന് വ്യാഴം വൈകിട്ട് പുറപ്പെട്ട കെഎസ്ആര്ടിസി സൂപ്പര് ഫാസ്റ്റ് ബസില് പ്രസവവേദന തുടങ്ങിയ യാത്രക്കാരിക്കാണ് ഡ്രൈവറുടെയും കണ്ടക്ടറുടെയും സമയോചിത ഇടപെടല് തുണയായത്. രാത്രി ഒന്നേകാലോടെ ബസ് ചെങ്ങന്നൂര് വിട്ടപ്പോഴാണ് യുവതിക്ക് സുഖമില്ലെന്ന കാര്യം ശ്രദ്ധയില്പ്പെട്ടത്.
പെരുമ്പാവൂരില് കശുവണ്ടി സംസ്കരണ കേന്ദ്രത്തില് ജോലിചെയ്യുന്ന കൊട്ടാരക്കര ആയൂര് സ്വദേശിനിയായ യുവതി വീട്ടിലേക്കു മടങ്ങുകയായിരുന്നു. പ്രായമായ ബന്ധുമാത്രമാണ് കൂടെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നത്. പ്രസവവേദനയാണെന്നു മനസ്സിലായതോടെ വഴിയിലെവിടെയും നിര്ത്താതെ ഡ്രൈവര് ബസ് വിട്ടു. പന്തളത്തിനടുത്ത് ആദ്യം കണ്ട ആശുപത്രിക്കു മുന്നില് നിര്ത്തി ഡ്രൈവര് യുവതിയെ താങ്ങിയെടുത്ത് കണ്ടക്ടറുടെയും യാത്രക്കാരുടെയും സഹായത്തോടെ അകത്തേക്ക് എത്തിച്ചെങ്കിലും അവിടെ ആളില്ലായിരുന്നു.
ഉടന് ഒാട്ടോ പിടിച്ച് മറ്റൊരു സ്വകാര്യ ആശുപത്രിയിലേക്ക് അയച്ചു. ബസില് തൊട്ടുപിറകെ എത്തിയ ഡ്രൈവറും കണ്ടക്ടറും ഡോക്ടറോട് കാര്യങ്ങള് വിശദീകരിച്ചു. പ്രസവം കഴിഞ്ഞ് അമ്മയും കുഞ്ഞും സുഖമായിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന് ഉറപ്പുവരുത്തി, സഹോദരിയെ ഫോണില് വിവരമറിയിച്ച ശേഷമാണ് സൂപ്പര് ഫാസ്റ്റ് വീണ്ടും തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തേക്കു കുതിച്ചത്. ഡ്രൈവര് കെ.എം. മനോജ്കുമാര് കോഴിക്കോട് സ്വദേശിയും കണ്ടക്ടര് എം. ഷറഫുദ്ദീന് വള്ളുവമ്പ്രം സ്വദേശിയുമാണ്.

Truly good souls! Hats off to KSRTC staff. I am sure other corporation staff wouldn’t be so concerned about their passengers. At best they would have dropped the lady at some hospital and driven off. I too have a similar experience. Some 5 years ago, was traveling from Coimbatore to Tiruvalla on the Bangalore Kottarakara Super Deluxe. Somewhere near Kuravilangad, a passenger had a sudden bout of epileptic fits attack. The driver and conductor rushed him to the nearest hospital and we left only after the Casualty doctor assured that everything is under control and he is in no danger. This shows that KeSRTC staff have a sense of responsibility for their passengers.

What would have happened if this happned in Kallda or Yattra… They would have cursed the lady and got her down in the next stop and continued the journey……
I would suggest KSRTCBLOG should consider it as its duty to recognise the diver and conductor by gifting them something small as a token of our appreciation for the job they did….. If we wait for the GOVT to do something… nothing will happen.
