Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said the government is unkind to the plights of KSRTC empanel employees. He was inaugurating the indefinite fast called by KSRTC empanel employees’ organisation in front of the Secretariat, demanding the regularisation of temporary staff who had completed five years of service.

“The daily wage of thousands of temporary employees who entered the service through Employment Exchange is just Rs 400 while even labourers in the rural areas earn Rs 700 to 800. This is not fair. Even the salary, pension and other benefits to regular employees are distributed promptly. Empanel employees are being denied public holidays, weekly offs and other benefits they are eligible for. Trying for some other job at this stage is impractical for many who have already settled in life,” he said.

“The temporary workers who have served for five continuous years should be regularised as per the high court order and 2012 KSRTC pay revision contract. Ministers including the chief minister have only time to indulge in corruption and go after ways to hush it up using their official power,” VS added.
