The government is thinking of introducing smart-card-based driving licence and registration certificates for vehicles being registered in the State.

The Motor Vehicles Department will also introduce driver testing tracks and vehicle testing stations in seven more locations on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in the next financial year, Governor P. Sathasivam said during his address to the Assembly on Friday. Road Safety Corps for training schoolchildren in road safety activities is another initiative being worked out by the MVD.

To lessen the hassles faced by those in hill areas, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will open three new depots in three districts with the help of local governments. The KSRTC will install solar panels in all the newly constructed bus terminals in the State.
