Thiruvananthapuram: A section of private buses plying in the city resorted to a flash strike on Thursday morning over alleged assault of a driver by the police. The strike which began at 10 a.m. was called off about two hours later following an assurance by the police to inquire into the matter.

The alleged incident that provoked the bus staff occurred in front of the KSRTC’s city bus station at East Fort around 7 a.m. The policemen on duty in the area asked the driver of a bus to change the position of the bus which was affecting smooth traffic. The driver and conductor of the bus, a couple, objected to the police direction resulting in an altercation.

The driver refused to move the vehicle which resulted in an altercation. Police asked the driver to take the vehicle to the Fort station which the driver Rajendran obliged. According to the bus staff, Rajendran was manhandled by the police at the station. “He was beaten by some policemen who were about to leave after night duty.
