The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has cleared the pension arrears of two months.

Transport Minister Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan said that Rs 76 crore was distributed to pensioners on Thursday as part of clearing the arrears.

The amount, along with that for giving Onam benefits to the employees of the Corporation, was mobilised from the Rs 59.85 crore sanctioned by the government, the remaining amount of Rs 10 crore after disbursing pension benefits and through loans from the financial institutions. Together it needed Rs 83.5 crore for giving salary, wages, festival allowance and Onam advance to the employees and the workers, he said.

The delay in settling the pension arrears had drawn criticism and the pensioners were staging protest against this. ENS
