Sulthan Bathery: Following protests in Karnataka over the Supreme Court order directing the release of water to Tamil Nadu from the Cauvery river, the state carrier KSRTC has been incurring losses of Rs. 15 lakhs per day.

33 services that plied between Bengaluru and Mysore through the district have been affected with their services being called off since the last round of protests following the order to release 6000 cusecs of water. Several of these buses terminated their services at Bathery, Mananthavady and Kozhikode. The luxury buses, including scania push-backs, earn anywhere between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 on a regular day.

Services were called off on Wednesday, Thursday and further on Tuesday. Nine of the 33 services through the district passes through Mananthavady and the rest go through Sulthan Bathery. Only three buses to these destinations originate in the district. Two of these pass though Kozhikode and Vadagara respectively.

The buses that pass through Mananthavady originate at Ernakulam, Aroor and Thiruvananthapuram. These terminate their services at Mananthavady. The buses that originate from Kozhikode, Piravom, Thiruvananthapuram and Alappuzha terminated at Kozhikode and Bathery.

This includes the scania buses that run between Mysuru and  Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru- Alapuzha. Three buses crossed the border to Mysuru on their scheduled services on Wednesday afternoon. These buses had ran the routes on schedule during the past week too.

The only solace for the travellers in this route has been the Gundalpett- Bathery services.  Except on the day when Karnataka shut down on a strike, the services has been regular.
