THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A mother, her son and a relative who verbally abused and threatened a KSRTC conductor of an inter-state bus were nabbed by the Neyyattinkara police on Saturday.

Sherly Paul, 56, a lecturer in an engineering college near Thuckalai and her son Ajay Paul, 27, an engineering student, residing at a rented house in RC Street, Neyyattinkara, were arrested along with the their relative Pradeesh, 25. According to the police, the incident in which Pramod, a conductor attached with the Thiruvananthapuram Central bus station, was threatened by the trio, was planned. “Sherly, who was on her way to Thuckalai, boarded the Thiruvananthapuram – Nagercoil bus from Neyyattinkara.

Though the conductor asked her to take a ticket, she did not oblige. Later, she was questioned by the checking inspector, who got into the bus at Amaravila. He directed her to obtain the ticket from the conductor. But Sherly started an argument with the conductor when the checking inspector got down from the bus,” said the Neyyattinkara police.

“Later, she called up someone on her mobile phone and informed them about the incident. This made the conductor more tense. Though she got down near Thuckalai, Pramod informed the matter at Neyyattinkara Police Station and Neyyattinkara bus depot after the bus reached Nagercoil depot,” said the police. Later, he started the return trip from there, on the basis of an assurance from the cops and the KSRTC officials.

“When the bus reached Thuckalai, Sherly got in. We were alerted by Pramod and we moved to the Neyyattinkara bus station. When the bus reached there, Ajayapaul and Pradeesh jumped in front of the bus and started abusing Pramod,” said the police.

They were taken into custody by the police personnel who were at the spot, under the leadership of SI T V Vineesh Kumar. The case was registered under IPC sections 294(b), 506(1) and 353 for uttering obscene words in public place and assaulting the public servant from discharging his duty.
