The Pathanamthitta depot of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will be made a model depot and the modern commercial complex-cum-bus stand under construction will be made operational this financial year itself, Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran has said.

The Minister, accompanied by local MLA Veena George and various Corporation officials, was talking to reporters during his visit to the KSRTC depot premises here on Friday.

He said the town circular service of the KSRTC in Pathanamthitta would be resumed soon on the request of the local MLA. A depot-level committee chaired by the MLA had been constituted to look into public demands. The committee would take decisions on the people’s demands and issue directions in a time-bound manner.

Mr Saseendran said steps would be taken soon to address the public demand for bus services from Pathanathitta linking the MC Road during late night hours.

 There were also demands for extending the Thenkasi-Pathanamthitta service to Kottayam via Thiruvalla.

The Minister said suggestions for diverting certain services from the MC Road via Pathanamthitta during night and the committee would study all these aspects.

He said the depot-level committee, chaired by the MLA, would conduct periodic review of the progress of work on the KSRTC commercial complex-cum-depot in Pathanamthitta. He said various employees’ unions had promised their earnest efforts to raise KSRTC’s income and the Corporation would seriously consider their request to increase the staff strength at the Pathanamthitta depot.
