To ensure safety of women and children in public places, Kerala Police will roll out ‘Pink Beat’ in the capital on Today (01-06-2016) to coincide with the new academic year. Specially trained women police personnel have been deployed for the ‘Pink Beat’ that will be in force daily from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. These uniformed police personnel will travel on KSRTC and private stage carriers and will be present at bus stops, schools, colleges, offices and places of worship.

To be supervised by City Police Commissioner G. Sparjan Kumar, the women police personnel will ensure that the seats reserved for women and physically challenged are not misused, and they will be on the lookout for those harassing women. They will assist women, children and senior citizens travelling on buses. The two-member women police team will travel up to 1 km in crowded buses. Mr. Sparjan Kumar said those deployed for the beat had been asked to contact the control room if they need assistance to nab those violating rules. The control room vehicle will rush to the spot to bring the culprits to police station concerned to be booked. At least five buses will be covered during the beat.

The movement of the ‘Pink Beat’ police personnel will be monitored by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Control Room, A. Pramod Kumar. In the first phase, there will be 12 teams of Pink Beat. Shadow Police will also extend support. The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law and Order and Traffic, will review the Pink Beat daily and the Additional Director General of Police, South Zone, will do a monthly review.
