The shopkeepers currently occupying the KSRTC’s property at East Fort and whose lease agreements were cancelled, will be evicted without notice, District Collector Biju Prabhakar has said.

The shopkeepers have been given time till Friday to vacate the premises. The decision was taken at a meeting at the Collectorate to discuss steps to end the traffic issues at East Fort. More bus bays will be added behind the current one to reduce the congestion in the area. It is for this purpose that the shopkeepers have been asked to vacate the area at the earliest. The KSRTC will also take steps to shift the shops of those with whom it has a lease agreement currently.

A decision was also taken to restructure the stop for buses heading to areas around Beemappally. These buses from Beemappally will now come out through Vettimuricha kotta , stop behind the Luciya Hotel to take in passengers and will go back in through the East Fort gate.

At present, the buses from Beemappally come out through the East Fort gate, cross the road, take in passengers in front of the Attakulangara school and goes back in through the Vettimuricha kotta. This arrangement has been causing traffic blocks in this area. New waiting sheds will be built behind the Luciya Hotel considering this change. The autorickshaw stand behind Luciya Hotel will be shifted to the area in front of the Sree Padmanabha theatre.

City Police Commissioner G.Sparjan Kumar, RTO A.P.Ashok Kumar and other officials participated in the meeting.
