The Thalassery Motor Accident Claims Tribunal has ordered to confiscate three buses of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to pay compensation to the family of a schoolboy who was run over by a bus while selling newspaper inside the bus stand.

MACT judge Baijunath issued the order after the KSRTC failed to pay Rs 16 lakh as compensation to the family of Kariyambalam native Pallivalappill Ayoob. The 15-year-old, who was a ninth standard student of Taliparamba Seethi Sahib Higher Secondary School, met with the tragic end on January 30, 2010.

Ayoob, who had lost his father, used to sell evening dailies after returning from school to take care of his mother and four siblings.

The MACT had ordered a compensation of Rs 10.78 lakh with an interest of 8 percent from January, 2010, on January 7, 2015. However, Ayoob’s family were forced to approach the court since they did not get the monetary aid.

Since the accused – the KSRTC MD and driver of the bus which hit Ayoob – failed to appear before the court, his family sought the help of the MACT following which the court ordered confiscation of three buses.

Two buses running in Kannur district and one bus operating in the Bengaluru route are to be confiscated.
