A new surprising news for everybody. The trivandrum mananthavady morning super fast bus upgraded to super express service from the last 5 days. The new buses RAK576 and RAK577 are of good standard super express bus.

It departs trivandrum bus stand at morning 0800 hrs and reaches mananthavadi by night 2100 hrs. Previously the super fast will be reaching mananthavadi by 2230 hrs only. Now there is a great time savings in the route.

The Rs.55.93-crore bus terminal complex of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to come up at the central bus station in the capital is to transform the face of Thampanoor and the prevailing concept about the bus stations in the State.

The 10-storied complex having a floor area of 24,984 sq m is to come up on the southern side of the KSRTC premises facing Ponnara Sreedhar Park. Being implemented on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) concept, the project is a joint venture of the Kerala Transport Development Finance Corporation and the KSRTC.

"The master plan for the project in Thampanoor is awaiting the government nod and the work is expected to commence next month," a KSRTC official said. The complex is among six projects being constructed under the BOT concept. The other bus terminal complexes are coming up at Angamaly, Kozhikode, Peroorkada and Malappuram.

Once completed, the terminal complexes will go against the conventional concept of bus terminal among the public. Apart from being an alighting and boarding point for the KSRTC buses, it will be a shopper's paradise with the shops offering anything from grocery to gold. Convention centres to organise meetings, conferences and to even hold marriages have been included.

Of the 10 floors of the terminal complex, one will be in the basement. As many as 145 cars and 250 two-wheelers can be parked in the basement alone. In addition, the basement will have a commercial area, central lobby, elevators, atrium and toilets.

The ground floor will house the bus bay, passenger platform, terminal facilities, that include office, enquiry, ticketing among other things, a central lobby and commercial area. As many as 29 buses can be parked at the bus bays at a time.

Commercial area and a central lobby figure in the first floor of the complex. The second floor, in addition to the space for the shops and a central lobby, will have the facility to park 87 cars at a time.

The third floor will house a convention centre and food court in addition to the central lobby. As many as 87 cars can also be parked on the third floor. The covered parking will be for 30.

All the floors from fourth onwards will have areas demarked for setting up offices, central lobby and toilets.

A flyover has also been proposed from the complex to the railway station for the hassle-free movement of the commuters arriving in the buses and trains.

In addition to the parking in the basement, second and third floor, 10 cars, 10 taxies, 200 two-wheelers and 40 autorickshaws can be parked in the open ground level. Thus, 339 cars, 450 two-wheelers and 40 autos can be parked. This is expected to solve the vexed issue of parking being faced at Thampanoor for decades. The KTDFC, which is managing Transtowers at Vazhuthacaud that houses its corporate office and Department of Motor Vehicles, will also be responsible for the upkeep of complex at Thampanoor.
